Initial idea

Initial idea

Initial idea

The project idea came from a group of physiotherapists for whom I provided other design services. There were 2 key problems that we wanted solved with this project.

Problems

  • Most physiotherapy patients fail to comply with recommendations, which adversely affects therapy outcomes.

  • The therapist has no control over patient's behavior between sessions.

Solution

  • A mobile app to monitor patient's progress between visits and motivate therapy recommendations adherence.

Questions & hypothesis

  • Do most physiotherapists encounter similar problems?

  • What other needs and pain points do they have?

  • Are there any relevant solutions on the market?

  • If so, what are their weaknesses? What could be done better?

Competition Analysis

Analysis of 8 existing applications for physiotherapists, medical offices, personal trainers. Identification of their strengths, weaknesses and functionalities

Quantitive Research

Survey conducted with 30+ physiotherapists gathered various types of data, including demographic information, the methods responders use to run their practices, their daily tasks and challenges, as well as the tools and technologies they utilize in their work.

Additionally, the survey explored how these professionals evaluate the usefulness of the solutions we propose.

Qualitative Research

In-depth interviews with 5 physiotherapists running different types of practices in terms of, e.g. location, type of patients, number of co-workers, employment method. The questions covered topics like: typical work day, cooperation with patients and coworkers, needs and pain points.

Empathization

Empathization

Empathization

  • Based on interviews, 2 personas with empathy maps were created.

  • Creating additional User Journey Maps for typical tasks performed by every persona allowed us to realize the exact problems they could encounter.

Insights & redefining problems

Insights & redefining problems

Insights & redefining problems

  • As a result of the research and empathy phase, it turned out that our initial assumptions regarding the main problems of the target user group were not entirely accurate.

  • 100 % of those interviewed indicated keeping medical records as the main pain point in their daily work.

  • We had to redefine our main problems an goals.

Redefined problems

  • Physiotherapists are an extremely busy professional group.

  • The daily duties related to maintaining medical records (which is mandatory) and handling visits overwhelm them and do not allow them to focus on what is most important - the patient's therapy.

Solutions

  • A mobile app that allows you to simplify, automate and speed up everyday tasks related to maintaining medical records and managing visits.

  • Intuitive, easy-to-fill forms

  • Using an AI assistant to maintain visit documentation, which records a conversation with the patient and fills in the medical documentation on this basis.

New approach

  • If physiotherapists were to be interested in our product, we should first solve the main problems.

  • Placing tasks on the red path matrix allowed us to identify 3 main features that should be included in the MVP of the designed application in the first place:

    • Maintaining medical records

    • Reviewing patients documentation

    • Managing visits
